Submissions Open for INDIs Awards 2025

Submissions are now open for the thirteenth edition of the The INDIs (Independent Directions) Film Awards, the UK's only award for independent young filmmakers. The INDIs champions and celebrates the talent of young independent UK filmmakers.

The INDIs was created to help facilitate emerging filmmakers and increase cultural opportunities for people aged 15-25 in Leeds and the wider Yorkshire area. Last year we had around 500 entries to the festival of which 20 films were selected to watch on the big screen at the award show. Our panel of industry peers gave feedback on each film and ultimately chose a winner for each age category: Altered Senses, directed by Riri Bain; You’re a Mess, directed by Ryan Bar; and Shuck, directed by Emerson New.

The awards are part of the INDIs Film Fest, which includes independent British and International cinema, industry sessions, panel discussions and VR Stories entirely curated for an audience of 15-25 year olds, with a particular focus on networking with other passionate young people who are interested in film as a career and art-form.

In order to encourage young filmmakers and make submissions as accessible as possible, the film submissions are completely free to enter, and are across three age categories: 15-18, 19-21 and 22-25. You must live in the UK to enter.

Our awards ceremony will take place in-person in Leeds, March 9 2025, with prizes being awarded to the winners in each category. Before submitting, please check the event dates and make sure you are available to attend. Films can be any genre, and be on any topic including films which tackle challenging subject matters.

More details will be announced about INDIs 2025 soon.

The INDIs is presented by Leeds Film, part of Leeds City Council, which also presents Leeds Young Film Festival and Leeds International Film Festival
