Descriptive Subtitles
Descriptive subtitles, also known as SDH (Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing), go beyond standard subtitles by including both dialogue and key non-dialogue audio cues.
Descriptive subtitles appear directly on the screen, usually at the bottom, just like traditional subtitles. However, they include additional information such as sound effects, music cues, and speaker identification, which may be enclosed in brackets or use different formatting to distinguish them from dialogue. These visual cues allow viewers who are deaf or hard of hearing to not only follow the conversations but also understand key auditory elements that enhance the atmosphere and storytelling of the film.
