Patrick Newton

Patrick Newton is a film programmer based in Newcastle. A passionate cinephile, he has spent four years working as part of the programming team at the Tyneside Cinema, one of the UK's flagship independent venues and the last remaining newsreel theatre in the UK that still operates as a cinema. A four-screen venue hosting independent new releases, thematic programmes, special events and retrospectives, Patrick leads on various programme strands at the cinema, alongside hosting Q&As and writing for the cinema's website. He holds an MA in Film Theory and Practice from Newcastle University, and is particularly interested in working class representation, as well as genre and queer cinema. He believes in the transformative power of film, championing filmmaking talent, and connecting the diverse, imaginative wonders of cinema with audiences everywhere.
