Movie Club

Part of Leeds Young Film Festival 2025

Movie Club 2025 is all about hands-on fun for kids (no parents allowed!!). Whether they love making TikToks, YouTube videos, or just getting creative, this is the perfect place to develop new skills and bring their ideas to life with real industry professionals.

Designed in collaboration with Screen Yorkshire and aimed at young people aged 7-12, Movie Club blends watching great films with practical workshops covering everything from directing and camera tricks to sound design, visual effects and costume & prosthetics.

Workshops are booked individually, so kids can join for just one session or stay for the whole day. There are four workshops per day and the same schedule runs across both days so kids can join for one day or spread their sessions over two days. If they love a workshop, they’re welcome to come back and do it again!

If you’re already making videos, we’ll show you how to take them further. If you’re just getting started, this is the perfect place to begin. No experience is necessary!

Each workshop is £7.50 but book more than one or multiple tickets and pay just £6 per workshop - more fun for less!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to bring any film or video equipment?

No, all necessary equipment for the workshops will be provided by Leeds Young Film Festival but children are welcome to bring their phone or tablet to the camera workshop however they will be solely responsible for looking after it.

Can parents stay with their children during the workshop?

No, we encourage children to work independently, as having parents in the room can affect the group dynamic. Children will be supervised by the LYFF team.

When should I pick up my child?

Please arrive promptly at the event’s scheduled end time and pick up your child from the same room where you dropped them off.

Do children need to bring any food/drink with them?

A drink is fine to bring along, but snacks are not needed for a 90-minute workshop which may involve equipment. If your child is attending the first two morning workshops, they should bring a packed lunch for the lunch break. This should not contain nuts or glass bottles. LYFF staff will supervise the lunch break.

Will children be able to take home any work?

No, these workshops are hands-on learning experiences. While children may create short clips, these won’t be recorded or edited - it's all about gaining new skills from industry professionals.

If I have multiple children, can they attend different workshops?

Yes, parents can register their children for different workshops as they prefer.

What are the age requirements for the workshops?

Workshops are open to children aged 7-12 years old.
