In a beautifully lyrical and bittersweet comedy-drama, Schultze follows the eponymous retired miner (the excellent Horst Krause) from his dreary life in a Saxon village to a gentle late-life adventure in the Zydeco country of Louisiana. A keen amateur folk musician, he is captivated by the Cajun music he hears for the first time on the radio back home. Schultze then embarks on a journey armed with accordion, polka tunes and rudimentary English, discovering a new life on the other side of the hill.
